Microsoft Windows XP Upgrade

Thanks for visiting and finding my article. What follows is information that I have pulled together from many different sources. I hope you find it both interesting and helpful.

No matter how much you fight it, you will one day soon have to say goodbye to Windows 98. If Microsoft hasn’t yet stopped offering support for the 98 version of its software, they soon will be. If you are anything like me, you are hanging on because 98 is familiar, and you know it works well. There comes a time though, when you must move on, and go for the Microsoft Windows XP upgrade. Don’t worry though, XP is full of great features, and you won’t miss your old operating system after just a few days of using XP after all.

When I got my Microsoft Windows XP upgrade, I decided to do it myself. This can be a little risky, but if you know anything about computers, you may be able to do it yourself with no fuss. The upgrade was rather easy to use, but I did run into a few problems I had not anticipated. One problem was that XP was not compatible with some of the older software on my computer. When you first put the Microsoft Windows XP upgrade disc into your computer, it scans your system for such problems. My main problem was Adobe PhotoDeluxe. It warned me that it was not compatible, and that I might have to upgrade while this may be true.

After the upgrade, I found that the software did need an upgrade. I choose not to go this route, however, and downloaded a patch and update from Adobe’s website. For the most part, my PhotoDeluxe still works well after the Microsoft Windows XP upgrade, but I do still have problems on occasion. Be prepared to delete or upgrade some of your older software when you choose the XP upgrade. Once the software problem was taken care of, the installation of XP went rather well, and there were very few problems. I have found that XP gives me a better clue as to what is going on with my computer, and it warns me when my virtual memory is low. I have an older computer, so this happens often. With Windows 98, I never got such a warning. Instead, my computer would just crash. Now I can restart when I get the warning, and everything is good immediately before.

If you are considering buying the Microsoft Windows XP upgrade, go for it. You will not be disappointed. Be wary of where you buy it, however, because some people like to see used upgrades on eBay. This is OK if they do not have it running on their computer any longer, but many try to install and register used upgrades only to find it is registered and in use by someone else. When this happens, your new upgrade is useless. You are better of buying a new one while this was happening.

So that's the information I have on that subject. I hope it was helpful and you were able to get something out of it.
